Meet Beyondsofters

I first got to know about Beyondsoft in the 1990s, for its famous multimedia software. After graduation I got three offers, including one from NEC. I eventually chose to join Beyondsoft MS Team because of my great interest in Microsoft.NET , which I had studied for over 3 years. I feel very lucky to have my job and interest connected together.

I like the learning environment of the company. When I joined Beyondsoft I was a student, and the whole company was my teacher. I will never forget my first lead, Karen, who taught me how to manage a group, my first manager Edwin, who taught me how to design an application, and Feng who showed me what is a real programmer.

Life at Beyondsoft is fun as well as rewarding. We have regular team-building activities and fun events like birthday parties. I am a fan of the NBA. The Beyondsoft basketball team is very strong. I played as a shooting guard. We have weekly activities for practice and for fun.

I like Beyondsoft because I can see my future in it. Beyondsoft is now moving forward with steady steps. We get more and more people, more and more projects, and a place in the worldwide market. That’s all because we DO provide better services to the customer, and we DO go beyond their expectations. I can see HOPE through the future. I have a dream that one day our company became a worldwide STANDARD of outsourcing.

I like Beyondsoft because it’s a westernized workplace. It helps the job as well as our personal development. In many Chinese companies, employees are afraid to question their boss, or raise their own ideas. But employee input is encouraged at Beyondsoft. I can express my ideas even complaints to my boss, and don’t worry that he or she will blame me. It really makes me feel we are working as a team.

The working language in Beyondsoft is English, and the company organizes regular events to improve our English skills. I took part in the 1st English Speaking Contest. Although I did not win any prize, it really impressed me a lot. People from different departments come together, talking about their different life, dreams, and jobs, in English.

There are a lot of opportunities here for employees who perform well.

In 2005, three months after I was promoted to Test Lead, I got the news that there was test lead position in another project. I wanted to go for it as the project was about a brand new product. But I loved the one I was doing. I dreamed that I if I could run both projects simultaneously, that would be a wonderful thing. It was just a thought in my mind for a few days. Two weeks later, my lead in China called me and she told me my lead in the States thought highly of me and would like to promote me to test lead of the new project. My dream came true!

It made me feel very happy and fulfilled, because my customer showed her satisfaction to me in her own way. I really appreciated her at although she didn’t mention even a word to me about it.

Hi, I’m Tielin, and I serve at Beyondsoft as a delivery manager responsible for a number of Microsoft projects like Office BI, and SQL BI. My job is to make sure our deliverables are of a consistently high quality.

When I joined Beyondsoft, I was assigned to the Multimedia Business Unit. Our task was to develop a suite of desktop products aimed at teaching the end user about computer functions. It took us five months to develop and release that product suite. But soon after that, a change in company strategy led to the closure of the whole department.

 That was difficult for me to take, and I did go through a hard time. Then in May 2002 I learned that Beyondsoft was starting its first testing project with Microsoft, and the MS team was ramping up and required more testers. I felt my chance had come again.

I got in touch with the project manager, and prepared for the interviews. I was accepted, and joined the Microsoft testing team. Looking back, I feel like I was at a crossroads in my career. I chose the right path.

I found I really loved testing work, and got great satisfaction from helping Microsoft deliver software products. My passion for work was rekindled, and within a couple of years, I was promoted to test lead, senior test lead and then delivery manager.

I’ve been with the company a long time now, and I understand how it grew from 100 employees at its founding to a global enterprise with more than 2,000 today. Because of our commitment and quality work, our relationship with Microsoft has both broadened and deepened. Every day brings new opportunities and challenges.

One of my most important tasks is to pass my passion over to my team. We and our client share the same goal of achieving high quality and on schedule releases. So we view ourselves as more than just a vendor. We are part of the client’s team.

Over the past one and a half years, I’ve learned the value of the strong team spirit at Beyondsoft. Last December, when I was just here for a few months, a workmate omitted some issues during testing, and this was discovered after one product release. I thought he was in big trouble, like as if he’d failed an examination at school.

However, our leader stood up at that time and explained to the American leader that it was our team that made the errors and we will pay more attention in future work to put an end to this kind of questions. As the leader, he took full responsibility. The issue was finally resolved, and I was touched by our leader and the way our team held together as one. The team had a problem and the team successfully resolved it. Only then did I realize what the true meaning of ‘team-work’ was.

For me, the happiest part of my job is product release time. When we have worked hard for a release, and when our leader in the States emails to say that the release is fine and thanks us for the efforts we made, I can feel much fulfillment in my career 

There are many happy moments at Beyondsoft that are not actually related to the job. Just as our slogan says, “Happy Work, Happy Life”. We colleagues get along very well while we work, and also after work. For example, I regularly join the swimming organized by the company every Thursday. I could keep fit by swimming and also get to know many new colleagues through such activities. We get along well later and could help each other improve at both life and work.

As regards my future, I can say it lies with Beyondsoft. I will spare no efforts in the job to improve myself both in technical and management skills. Hopefully I could lead a big team some day and cooperate with them to make the work go smoothly. This is my dream.

Personal reflections: I’m so happy to have come to Beyondsoft. I’ve learned so much, and I’m really getting accustomed to this environment, and I’m gradually learning to change roles. After joining the LECS project team, I received so much help from my superiors and colleagues. I’ve learned so much already, but I know there is even more to learn, and I hope from now on I’ll keep getting the same help and support from everyone so I can do even better work. Gotta keep it up, never stop improving!
