Meet Eric Valenzuela

For our Monthly Employee Spotlight, Eric was nominated and will be highlighted in today’s interview:

Marketing: Hi Eric, thanks for being with us today and congratulations on being November’s Employee Spotlight!

Eric: Hi! I’m honoured to be here and share a little bit about myself.

Marketing: As always we’ll start with basic questions and then a little more fun ones. Our first question will be can you tell us about your education and background?

Eric: I went to the University of Texas and was recruited to work for KPMG. Since that time I have only worked in data and started working with AWS and adopted their cloud offering in the 2009/2010 timeframe. Seeing the cloud as the future I was all in consulting and building data solutions on the AWS cloud.

Marketing: Awesome it looks like you jumped into AWS in just the right time. How long have you been with Beyondsoft? Can you tell us more about your role here?

Eric: I have been with BCI since March 2017. Currently, I serve as the
Director of the Big Data and Cloud Solution services practice under Grace Du and MK Tong in the NABG BU. I wear many hats in this role, but the most critically I function as a Business Development Manager. Apart from that, I have a hand in product management for our internal software solution called ConvergDB.

Marketing: That’s awesome, we hope for many more years for you to be here Eric. Where do you see yourself in 10 years from now?

Eric: In 10 years from now I hope to be functioning as the head of a
flourishing consulting practice. What that means exactly is unknown but my focus is on that and I take it year by year. If that doesn’t work out I will gladly take a position with the New Orleans Saints working in their data and
analytics department.

Marketing: You’re a Saints fan… anyways next question! What is the last gift someone gave to you?

Eric: I am a huge collector of vinyl records. The last gift I was given was a stack of classic New Orleans funk and soul records. I had to attend a
conference in Seattle and missed the Austin Texas Record Convention. My buddy Dan knows my affinity for classic vinyl records and picked up some amazing vinyl that fits perfectly in my growing collection.

Marketing: Well it looks like we know what to give you for Christmas.
If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?

Eric: I would pack up and go to Santorini in the Aegean Sea. It was a
destination choice for our honeymoon but we elected to visit Spain instead. I am still very much intrigued. If we go, I will want to spend more than just a week. Hence the reason we didn’t go for our honeymoon earlier this year.

Marketing: I just Googled that and wow, that place looks amazing! Alright now, imagine having all the money in the world, what’s your first buy?

Eric: I think at first thought I would think about a pair of ‘Focal Grand Utopia EM EVO Loudspeakers’ with the appropriate amperage and a GrooveMaster Vintage Direct DP3 turntable. But in actuality, I would spend whatever I had to get my parents’ house better than it was before the Harvey hurricane.

Marketing: That’s very thoughtful, I’m sure with all the money in the world you could get all the items on your list. So our last question will be, what is one thing you cannot resist?

Eric: This is difficult to decide, it’s a toss-up between Texas BBQ and
Gumbo.
